Our Mission
To encourage the development of Bay Area competitive junior golfers by providing an environment in which:
- The junior golfer may learn the rules, etiquette, and gain experience by participating in competitive 9 hole tournament play.
- The junior golfer may apply that knowledge and experience by participating in advanced 18 hole tournament competition in preparation for advanced competitive golf opportunities.
What do we do?
The GTJGA runs golf tournaments for juniors age 6 through high school graduation on a monthly basis.
When are the tournaments held?
Most tournaments are scheduled on school holidays, Saturdays and Sundays. The first event of the upcoming season will be determined. The proposed 2009-2010 schedule will be posted on our website.
What does it cost?
Membership fee is $50 per child per year ($25 each additional family member.) Tournament fee is $30 per 18 Hole event ($25.00 second family member; $20.00 each additional member) and $25.00 per 9 Hole event ($20.00 second family member; $15.00 each additional member.)
What are the age groups?
Boys: 8-under (Caddie REQUIRED), 9-11* (Caddie OPTIONAL), 11-13*, 13-15, 16-18+ Girls: 8-under (Caddie REQUIRED), 9-11* (Caddie OPTIONAL), 11-13*, 13-15, 16-18
*The asterisked groups indicate that the top age can be used as a transition year during which the competitor will have the option, at the start of the season, of registering in the age group that is appropriate for his/her ability. I.E., a 13 year old may opt to remain in the 11-13 age group that is playing from a shorter yardage, or select to play from the more challenging distance in the 13-15 age group. Similarly, an 11 year old competitor has the option of remaining in the 9 hole division, or move into the 18 hole division. Note that the 11 and 13 year olds can move up a division subject to merit skill level.
What are the yardages?
Boys: 8-under (9 Hole advanced tees), 9-11 (9 Hole forward tees), 11-13 (18 Hole middle tees), 13-18 (18 Hole back tees)
Girls: 8-under (9 Hole advanced tees), 9-11 (9 Hole forward tees), 11-13 (18 Hole forward tees), *13-18 (18 Hole middle tees)
